課程概述 |
本課程著重培養學生對當代有關「島嶼研究」相關議題的興趣與理解能力，其課程要求有三：(1) 掌握當代島嶼研究關鍵文獻；(2) 培養訓練學生整合性環境調查及分析之能力；(3) 增進學生全球視野，並建全台大全球及區域之研究
為達成上述目標，本課程本年度將研究區域設定為南太平洋之島嶼，並擬定課程目標如下︰
首先，針對島嶼研究相關之文獻閱讀以及理解能力提升部分，是以ADB(Asian Development Bank) 出版之一系列南太平洋地區研究報告、以及Geoscience Commission (SOPAC) 所做之相關自然研究為基礎，再配合上其他相關文獻等，從其中挑出具有影響力的文獻。學生採取輪流報告之讀書會方式，分享該負責文章之主要觀點，用以加強學生文獻閱讀以及英文理解能力。
其次，針對培養訓練學生整合性環境調查及分析能力部分，本課程邀請各領域學者專家，針對島嶼研究及其調查方法各面向進行演講。課程結束後，要求學生設計出具整合性之環境資源調查流程，且在暑期前往南太平洋島嶼實習之。返國後續工作則要求學生集體完成一綜合環境分析報告及地圖集，以及個人則針對有興趣之領域個別完成一份報告。
最後則是增進學生全球視野、建全台大全球及區域研究部分，本課程設定之研究區域為南太平洋島嶼，係以往較少被國內研究所注意的區域，一般人對此也較陌生，因此本課程期望提供學生擴展國際視野的機會，同時為台大在全球及區域發展上拓展新的範疇。

課程目標 |
本課程進行方式以專業老師講授、海外島嶼實習、共同討論為主：
（1） 聘請於土地利用、自然地景、水質、氣候、南島語族文化等各領域專業之老師作課堂授課，講授該領域相關理論與研究方法，且提供設計實地調查方式與流程上之建議與經驗。
（2） 本課程要求參與學生前赴南太平洋島嶼國家作現地調查一個月，實習內容包含針對土地利用、自然與文化地景、水質分析和生態環境作第一手資料調查，並向當地相關機構蒐集氣象、水文等二手資料。
（3） 由於本課程需要學生參與計劃書撰寫、簡報製作與發表、文獻閱讀與報告、調查流程設計、實習手冊編輯、地圖主題構思等事項，因此共同討論是課程進行相當重要的一環。

課程要求 |
本課程設定沒有期中考試以及期末考試，學生評分標準依循以下四大部份：(1) 海外實習行前討論之參與程度，(2) 海外實習過程調查表現與危機處理能力；(3) 團體地圖集發表成果 (4) 個人南太平洋島嶼專題研究成果。 |
